School visits and Guess Lecture - 8th of July

Today we had a fantastic day with school visits and a very interesting guess lecture by Alan Maley.

SCHOOL VISIT

We all have different experiences and opinions about the day at the school, the activities in which we were involved, etc. That's the reason why I'd like to reflect a little about two interesting activities: the assembly and school forest activities.

School forests:

School forest consist of outdoor activities in forests or woodland areas, usually scheduled once a week. Including art , building houses, climbing trees, cooking, making fires, singing or rope activities.

These tasks aim to develop social, emotional and cognitive skills and let every child to learn in freedom and improve their own abilities. These are very helpful with additional support student or behaviour difficulties.

On these links you can investigate and Lear a little bot more about school forests, a really nice way to work with students in natural environments.

What is a forest school ?

Main principles

Assembly:

We visited a school assembly for upper primary, in which the library teacher was presenting new books to de students and encouraging then to participate in a summer reading contest organized by Norwich City Hall, in which the students could win smelly stickers.

Make assemblies with the whole school could be a little difficult to organise, but is a good opportunity to work about special occasions or celebrations, deal with solving problems techniques, foster new interest or activities in the students, etc.

This is a very interesting websites with school assembly resources, enjoy it!

These are the websites of the three schools we have visited :

Catton Grive Primary School

Bignol Primary and Nursery School

Cotessey Junior School

GUESS LECTURE BY ALAN MALEY

During the afternoon we had a really interesting lecture by the author Alan Maley.

Along the two hours we could experienced how language activities are a fantastic way to introduces creativity in the class. Sometimes the limits or constrains are good tools that allow language tasks became creative, and could be absolutely successful in the class.

In the following link you can download Alan's new book; Creativity in the English language classroom.

To finish with my post about the day here there is a website with the resources book of Alan Maley, in which you can find very useful books for primary teachers.
